About Marnie
As
a Tellington TTouch Practitioner, a lawyer, and a
graduate with a degree in Communications and Social
Psychology, I have found passion, challenge, and balance
working with animals. I have used my Tellington TTouch
training to work in the “medium” I love most – fur - and
have used my law and communications to work in social
policy on behalf of animals worldwide.
My commitment to animals began in 1996 when I was
certified by the
Delta Society to visit hospital patients with
my dog, Bart. In each visit, I was amazed at the joy I
saw in patients' faces as they touched and held Bart.
Regularly, I heard worried and tired patients say they
felt a sense of well-being and peace. Visiting hospitals
with Bart convinced me that many people share my belief
- animals provide a much needed source of warmth and
comfort in our high-speed world.
As
my experience with animals grew, I decided to contribute
my many years of education to a practice of studying and
working with animals. Over a period of four years I
studied animal therapy, animal behavior, animal
language, and interspecies communication. In 2003, I
graduated as a practitioner in Tellington TTouch, and
one year later I completed my Small Animal Massage
certification.
I also worked in the field of grief counseling for
people who had lost a beloved animal, and I worked with
animals who grieved the loss of their human. During
these studies, I became a member of the Delta Society’s
Board of Directors. Through Delta, I worked on issues of
animal welfare with the
International Association of Human Animal Interest
Organizations.
Currently,
I’m devoting more time to what I love most – animals. I
see clients regularly and often speak to groups
interested in TTouch. I regularly work with service dogs
and animals who are involved in animal therapy. I am
increasing the scope of my work to include police dog
and search and rescue dogs, and I am designing a project
to study stress and stress mitigation techniques in
working dogs.
